What are Domain Metrics?

Domain Metrics are what you can use to track how well your site is doing. While they have no direct impact on Google, swaying them to up your rankings or drop you, they can be highly useful to not only know but also improve. Theoretically, the better your domain metrics are, the better you are likely to perform in the search engines, as these metrics take into consideration many of the same factors that Google does when ranking sites, including backlinks and content quality. The main metrics that businesses like to focus on are Page Authority and Domain Authority. What does Domain Authority mean? Maybe you aren’t sure about Page Authority. We’ve provided a quick overview below that offers some insight.

What is Page Authority?

Page Authority is one of the metrics created by Moz that will inform a website of how well a page will likely rank on search engines. Scores range from 1 to 100, and the closer you are to 100, the better, as this could indicate you have a better chance of ranking higher. It takes over 40 factors into consideration, including keyword density, traffic, and number of backlinks. When you can make certain pages stand out, you have more opportunities to gain more links and build up authoritative credibility status. View this as a long-term strategy.

What is Domain Authority?

Domain Authority is another metric that has been created by Moz and gives websites a score of 1 to 100 based on numerous factors, such as backlinks. It measures how much success your site is likely to have on the search engine rankings but does not directly influence it. The next question many people have is: what is a good domain authority? Anything between 50 and 60 is good! Knowing your score enables you to get an idea of how other websites view you, including your competition, just like you can learn about them. You can give yourself a benchmark to aim for. A lot of people maintain their focus on Domain Authority as this is about the entire website and not just 1 page, but both are as important as the other.

What are Backlinks?

You can’t mention Domain and Page Authority without backlinks coming up, but just what are they? Backlinks, sometimes called inbound links, are hyperlinks that direct traffic from one site back to yours. These links will use anchor texts within content and are best placed on authoritative, relevant sites. Google views these high-quality backlinks as votes of confidence from other sites and is more likely to reward you with higher rankings.

What are Referring Domains?

When you get a backlink on another site, and they start sending traffic to your site, it becomes known as a referring domain. You may gain lots of links from this 1 site, but it won’t increase the number of referring domains you have. To increase this number, you would have to reach out to multiple sites and request they add a backlink or create killer content that they cannot miss out on sharing with their audience. If you have 10 different links from 10 sites, you would have 10 referring domains.
